JOINT PAIN

JOINT PAIN

Joint pain can result from an injury, aging, arthritis, misalignments, autoimmune diseases such as fibromyalgia, lupus, or multiple sclerosis(MS), but any autoimmune disease is going to affect the joints due to the inflammatory nature of the disease. People who smoke or use tobacco products are also more prone to joint pain because nicotine and tar can build up in the joints causing inflammation. Even being dehydrated can contribute to joint pain. Misalignments can cause joint pain and put a strain on the muscles and tendons that surround a joint as can being deficient in many key nutrients that the body needs to maintain proper synovial fluid. Synovial fluid is made up of hyaluronic acid, proteinases, collagenases, lubricin, and prostaglandins which give it a slick nature that provides cushion and lubrication to the joints and allows them to glide and move against each other.

Functional Medicine will approach joint pain from multiple aspects, testing for possible nutrient deficiencies/imbalances, stealth infections, parasite infestations, bacterial or fungal overgrowths, leaky gut, and/or misalignments. Dr. Williams original degree was as a Chiropractic Physician with a board certification in Sports Injuries which makes him uniquely qualified to approach joint pain not only as a Functional Medicine Practitioner but also as a joint specialist.
