BRAIN FOG

BRAIN FOG

Brain fog is generally described as a lack of mental clarity, forgetfulness, confusion, searching for words or being unable to clearly convey your thoughts…basically mental fatigue- feeling tired and sluggish. It is important to note that brain fog is very different from dementia or Alzheimer’s Disease as these affect more than memory. Over time dementia and Alzheimer’s Disease effect someone’s ability to do normal daily tasks and functions. Brain fog would be akin to forgetting where you put your keys, whereas advanced dementia/Alzheimer’s would be not remembering what those keys are for.

You may be wondering how brain fog is connected to digestive complaints. Dysbiosis, SIBO/SIFO, food sensitivities/intolerances, nutrient deficiencies, low stomach acid, adrenal dysfunction, blood sugar dysregulation, hormonal imbalances, IBS, toxins, and leaky gut all cause inflammation and oxidative stress in the body. This inflammation can trigger imbalances in the brain leading to cognitive impairment and brain fog. For this reason, comprehensive testing is necessary to uncover what condition(s) may be causing your brain fog. Once the root cause(s) is determined, Dr. Williams will devise an individualized plan to address the imbalances and return the body to its highest level of functioning possible.
